Kamil Pawlowski, our Ambassador in Poland, has concluded a successful campaign in the 2021 Ferrari Esports Series and is the overall champion after many rounds of intense competition! We sit down with Kamil to hear a little more about his season and the work that was needed behind the scenes to achieve his title glory.
Kamil, congratulations on winning the final race of the Ferrari Esports Series! How do you feel about your achievement?
Thank you very much! Achieving something I’ve been working on really hard past two years gives me a blissful feeling of accomplishment! Crossing the finish line in the last race on P1 released so many feelings kept inside me, shedding tears of joy, it’s really amazing. After problematic last year, I promised myself to come back stronger and even better prepared, aiming only for the win, so it couldn’t get any better than that!
Did you do anything special in terms of training for this championship? And how many hours do you think you put in?
We got to know the cars & tracks combos only week before the finals – limited time for practice was actually an advantage for me I think! I’m efficient at adapting really fast to different things with time pressure. I spent every single hour of my free time (which was limited due to work in the daytime) on practicing on-track. I was highly motivated, so it wasn’t a problem to – well – „sacrifice” all my spare time on trainings, even in the nights. And it was worth it. Making the dream of joining a Ferrari Team come true is worth a lot of work.
Nothing special regarding the trainings I guess, practicing like for every other competition – practicing single lap qualifying pace, race consistency, working on a setup and mastering the launch starts! Just focusing on training effectively and regularly.
What is the competition like, racing some of the top eSports drivers in the world?
The pressure and overall stress factor was huge, of course. But I always try to set my bar as high as I can, comparing myself to potentially faster drivers. If I see someone on the similar level lapping faster than me in the same car, I’ll do everything whatever I can reach his pace! Especially when fighting in the top spots – motivation to push for that one extra percent of abilities is even higher, comparing it to the situation, where I find myself fighting in the mid-field. Let’s not forget about the mentality, playing a super important role in top level esports competition. If you’re not mentally strong, you’ll probably find yourself uncomfortable in highly stressful racing situations. It’s so much different than practicing alone on-track. Mentality is something that you can always work on and get better at for racing! And I need to keep that in mind for my upcoming new chapter!
